District Four Shows Well in Wausau

Madison La Follette State Champs, Sun Prairie Girls Fifth

Earl Chandlers' La Follette Lancers proved they were the team to beat by earning the number one seed for Sunday's TV finals. La Follette led 65 teams in qualifying on a very challenging condition with a 15 game score of 3091 (206 ave). They then went on to defeat Neenah 406 to 403 in the Championship match at Weston Lanes in Wausau to earn their first Wisconsin High School Bowling State Title. This is the second title the Madison Area District 4 has received.

The Sun Prairie girls, coached by Steve Powers, proved they will be a team to be reckoned with in the future by qualifying 5th out of 40 teams for the Sunday TV finals. Sun Prairie was defeated by Columbus 310 to 285 in a 2 game baker total in the first match of the step ladder finals, giving them a 5th place finish overall.

Beside the Lancers of La Follette, the Cardinals of Sun Prairie finished 10th with (2879), Verona 15th (2822), Madison East 23rd (2785), Waunakee 28th (2760), Cambridge/Deerfield 43rd (2661), Monona Grove 57th (2542), and DeForest 59th (2503) in the boys division.

In the girls division, DeForest finished 9th (2584) and Verona was 17th (2455).

In the Singles competition it was Corey Schmidt of La Follette leading the way for District Four. Corey led first round qualifying of 128 bowlers with a 745 series, he followed that with a second round 602 for a 1347 total and a second seed in Sundays TV step ladder finals. Corey won his first match against Mike Dolan of Fond du Lac, he then faced Jesse Adams of Marinette and finished second overall. He was joined in the second round by Brandon Acker who was second after round one and finished 11th overall with a six game total of 1250 (706 & 544), and Kyle Schmidt with 1167 (608 & 559) finishing 25th. The rest of the boys results were: 34th Corey Crosse & Ryan Steele 598, 42nd Mason Zimmer 594, 45th Kevin Morrical 593, 47th Cody Schwichtenberg 588, 54th Justin Faltersack 582, 56th Tad Scharnke 581, 93rd Shannon Udelhofen 537, 101st Luke Anderson 530, 105th Drew Latsch 523, 108th Luke Hoppe 518 and 113th Toby Probst 509.

In the girls singles competition, Tiffany Kroon of DeForest lead the district making the top 19 of 74 with a first round total of 575. Tiffany shot 540 the second round for a total of 1115, good for an 11th place overall finish. Other District Four finishers were Jessica Sempf 20th (548), 35th Brooke Raimond (520), 40th Melanie Darga (511), 47th Steph Coren (492) and 59th April Kazcor (463).

A special congratulations goes out to the State Champion La Follette Lancers, Sun Prairie Lady Cards and Corey Schmidt for a job well done. You carried the District Four flag high and we're proud of you all.
